Prez was the last to be taken care of because fortunately along the way someone else was able to get the majority of the crud off of him. However his ears remained and once I took a close look I could see why. They were so could not get a clipper blade to cut the hair. His skin also was infected and oozing in spots. *he still has a bald spot on his backside that if he is clipped down you can see where the hair never did grow back*. It took several baths over a course of 2 months to get his ears groomed and 3 rounds of oral antibiotics and topical medication to clean them up. We originally worried he might need surgery on them. The nails on his front feet had kept growing even them so they curled and twisted @ the nailbed. His feet still have odd nails but we keep them short enough that now its not a problem for him.
You can see that Prez had alot happen to him from the abuse but is still a beautiful cocker. He has some food aggression issues(not with humans but with other dogs) and would be best placed in a home with either a submissive female dog or by himself. He can and does get along with other dogs but definately likes to be top dog and it has taken literally months of socialization and hard work to get him to get along with our very well mannered dogs. He is 5 years young, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and fully healthy at this point in time. Due to his severe neglect and the condition his ears were in when we rescued him he will always need to be monitored closely for ear infections as the tissue in his ear canal is pitted and a "ripe" area for yeast and bacteria to flourish.
Prez's food agression issue is not geared toward humans, with people he is very submissive and well mannered. However it is not uncommon in rescued dogs from puppy mills/severe neglect survived, that being said when there is food around he eats it, as much as he can get and if that means fighting off another animal for it he will. He certainly receives enough food here as we free feed and there is always ample food around to discourage this behavior but we have also noticed that Prez is getting fat off of eating all the food that is put down. He will need to be cut back on the amount of food he eats when he goes to his new home so that the extra weight he has put on will not continue to be an issue. Unless we were to isolate him from our dogs (which we worked a long time to get him integrated as part of the "pack" so that he wouldn't be stuck alone and locked up without companionship) there simply is no way for us to place him on a diet. The ideal home for Prez would have a mellow female dog companion or no other pets. We believe the home should not have children under the age of 10(he gets along with them but it is our concern were he to spend alot of unsupervised time with one that he might view it as competition for his food bowl), other male dogs or cats. *he has been around our cats and likes to stalk them, has never hurt one and leaves them alone if told "NO!" but unless you have a cat that really likes attention from a dog your kitty will not like Prez* Prez is 5 years young and has a long healthy life ahead of him, is housebroken, leash trained but we would prefer a fenced in yard where he can run about freely and enjoy life. Prez should NEVER be in a crate again as he was locked in one for so long he shows anxiety issues in one and shreds whatever is placed in one with him. He however is not a chewer and is well behaved if you need to leave him alone in his home. He rides very well in the car and is a loyal companion. He does not like to get up and sleep on the bed and only gets up on the couch if you encourage him. He has never shown any agression with people, never even attempted to bite or growl at one but again I must make it clear he does NOT get along well with other adult male dogs or alpha females.
