| Most of our dogs have grown up as puppies here @ Kattery Kennels. We feel it is important to know your dogs and give them a good upbringing before we even consider breeding them. Some dogs are not suited to be parents not just health wise (tho that is important too!) but also emotionally. We will not breed any of our dogs that aren't happy, healthy and well adjusted. We make sure to wait till they are at least 2 years of age not just because that is the MINIMUM age requirement for many health certifications but also because emotionally they are not nearly mature until then either. We spare no expense in giving them what they need, want and deserve. We feed top of the line food (Eukanuba or Iams), use modern and efficient health aides (like Frontline) and make sure our dogs get exercise and mental stimulation as well. Even our dog yard has play equipment to keep them entertained. We work with our veterinarian to make sure they are healthy on the inside and out. All our dogs are micro-chipped for identification, we do the same for all our puppies. When our puppies are born they spend one on one time with mom but as soon as they are ready they are up and about so they can explore and learn. Our adults are all very good with puppies, they love to play with them, put up with the climbing all over them, ears being tugged and also don't mind holding one down for a bath if they think it needs it! LOL Below are some candid photos of our dogs around the house and out with us in the yard. As you can see they aren't always picture perfect but get dirty and like to have a good time just like every other dog. They are often under foot, *as I type this 3 of them are directly laying on top of my feet*, in our laps and they think they make great supervisors! Jan. 5th 2011, Terry was in a major auto accident and
shattered his femur just below his knee. It was at this
time that we decided to focus on his recovery and
drastically cut back on the # of litters we have each
year. At this time our plans are unsure and likely to
change for various reasons. Because we have some
near retirement age dogs, we have chosen to pull
their web pages (too many inquiries for litters we can
not reasonably plan at this time) and those who are
retired already and only make available the pages of
the adults we know for certain we will be breeding
again. Once he makes a full recovery we might
consider increasing our litters but since we never
have had more than 4 in a calendar year it just
seemed simpler to make available those dogs that we
do know we will be breeding.
October 2011~ Terry will be needing his knee
replaced as it did not heal properly. This will
take place in Autumn of 2011.
